The Origin and Purpose of the Webster Technique
The Webster Technique was developed by Dr. Larry Webster, the founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. He observed that many pregnant patients experienced improved comfort and pelvic balance when a specific sacral adjustment was paired with soft tissue work on the round ligaments and pelvic muscles.
How the Webster Technique Works
The technique has three components:
- Sacral analysis: Dr. Lackner checks for subluxation โ restricted motion or misalignment โ in the sacrum, the triangular bone at the base of the spine.
- Gentle sacral adjustment: A low-force, specific contact restores normal sacral motion. No twisting or high-velocity thrusting.
- Soft tissue release: Light work on the round ligaments and pelvic muscles helps balance tension on both sides of the uterus.
Why Pelvic Balance Matters in Pregnancy
The uterus is suspended in the pelvis by ligaments that attach to the sacrum, pubic bone, and hips. When the sacrum is subluxated or pelvic muscles are unevenly tight, those ligaments can pull asymmetrically. The Webster Technique aims to reduce that asymmetry so the uterus has balanced support.

At The Holistic Health Center of Peoria, prenatal visits are calm and unhurried. Dr. Lackner uses comfortable side-lying or kneeling positions, never X-rays during pregnancy, and adjusts her pressure to your comfort level. Most visits take 20โ30 minutes.
